

Pilkington Recs booked their place in round two of the BARLA Cup after a 44-20 win over
Keighley Albion at Ruskin Drive.
It was the perfect start for the hosts, who took the lead after just two minutes. Callum Cunliffe managed to throw a couple of dummies and broke through to score under the posts.
Tom Connick added the conversion.
With just five minutes on the clock, Pilks added a second, with Ben O’Connell getting to a ricocheted kick. Connick adding the conversion.
Keighley Albion then pulled one back, before Pilks got their third try just past the 20 minute
mark. This time, they spread the ball out wide, and allowed Aidyn Jones to score out wide. Connick’s conversion attempt was dubiously given.
The last word of the half would go to the visitors, as they spread the ball out to the wing and
scored.
Albion started the second half strongly and got the first try of the second half to get back to
within four points. But this stirred the hosts into life. Just four minutes later, George Hannan bumped off a few tackles and offloaded to Callum Johnson, who scored, Connick added the conversion.
For the second time in the afternoon, Pilks went back to back. Ben O’Connell finished off a break
for his second try with Connick maintaining his perfect conversion record.
On the hour mark, Pilks added their sixth try. Elliot Martin managed to break through, andJohnson went over for his second.
There was time for one more from the hosts. Jones managed to hold off a couple of tackle attempts to score his second. Connick converted.
Keighley Albion ended up having the last word, but it was Pilks who advanced to round two,
where they will face Thatto Heath Crusaders.
That is not until April with attention turning to the league, where Pilks get their campaign underway against East Leeds.
