Pilkington Recs claimed their first home win of the season after a 26-16 win over Hensingham at Ruskin Drive.
It wasnt an ideal start, as Hensingham opened the scoring over 10 minutes. But, just nine minutes later, Pilks levelled. George Hannan managed to break his way
through the defence, and pass to the supporting Callum Derrick to score. Kyran Knapper converted.
Parity would not last long, as the visitors retook the lead just a few minutes later.
To make matters worse, Ben O’Connell was sent off just past the half-hour meaning Pilks had to play just under an hour with 12 men and only one halfback on the pitch after Knapper was forced off before the end of the half with a groin injury.
Pilks needed a big start to the second half, and they got it when George Hannan was able to
get through a gap and score. Tom Connick, who had taken over kicking duties in the absence of Knapper, converted to level the scores.
With just five minutes on the clock in the second half, Pilks got their second try of the half.
After the Hensingham defence failed to deal with a kick, Jake Topping got to the loose ball to
score. Connick once again added the conversion.
Soon after, Connick was able to add two more points after Hensingham were caught offside. This took Pilks into an eight-point lead.
Just on the hour mark, Hensingham gave themselves hope with a try out wide after a Pilks mistake.
But it wasn’t a one-score game for long, as Connick added a try to his name after attacking the line and getting over from short range. He was then able to convert his own try for a 10-point lead.
That was the way the match finished, and Pilks claimed their third win in a row, and their first
home win this season. They are back on the road next week, as they travel to Drighlington
